Female Hair Loss. Causes and Treatments

Much like our facial and body features, hair is an important part of every woman’s life. Having a lustrous healthy head of hair is intimately related to society’s perception of beauty, which is why we invest so much time and money in taking care of it.

Despite our best efforts, sometimes we will experience excessive hair loss, which can send us into emotional distress at the thought of losing our beautiful locks; but, there is no need to fear, at Revivify Medical Spa we have the best hair treatments to ensure your hair remains a beautiful expression of your personality.

What is Female Hair Loss or Alopecia?

Female hair loss or lopecia is a condition characterized for abnormal or excessive hair loss. The condition can affect both males and females of any age group. People who suffer from alopecia, can experience hair loss on their scalps or their entire body.

How Does Hair Grow?

Our scalps are home to some 100,000 hair follicles; each produces one strand of hair which grows in three different cycles.

Anagen: This is the growth phase of hair. Hair will grow continuously at an average rate of ½ an inch per month for 2 to 6 years. 90% of our hair is in this stage at any given time.

Catagen: This is a transition period for hair, during this stage, hair stops growing. This phase typically last from 2 weeks up to 1 month, during this time, the hair follicle shrinks.

Telogen: The last cycle is a resting period for hair. This lasts from 2 to 4 months, it is at this stage that hair will fall out.

The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that most people lose anywhere from 50 to 100 hair strands per day, and when we wash our hair this number can grow up to 250 strands. This is normal, and there is no need to worry if your hair grows back.

Normally, after the telogen cycle, the hair follicle which has been resting for some time, will produce another hair strand of the same thickness as the last one. However, for people suffering from alopecia, hair could grow back thinner due to follicle miniaturization, or not grow back at all.

What Causes Alopecia?

There are many causes for female alopecia, the most common cause however, is hereditary male or female pattern baldness. If you have a family history of baldness you are at a higher risk of developing alopecia. Certain sex hormones can trigger the condition and this may happen as early as puberty.

In women who do not have a family history of baldness, female hair loss can be triggered by hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, discontinuing or changes in birth control methods and menopause.

Certain illnesses like thyroid disease, lupus, scalp infections and autoimmune diseases such as alopecia areata, as well as stress and emotional shock have also been linked to hair loss. Medications to treat cancer, depression, high blood pressure, arthritis, and heart disease have also been found to cause alopecia.

What is the Most Efficient Treatment for Female Hair Loss?

PRP Hair Regrowth and Restoration Treatment

At Revivify Medical Spa we work with the most effective treatments in non surgical hair restoration and regrowth.  Our first hair restoration treatment is the Plasma Rich in Platelets (PRP) hair restoration treatment. PRP reduces or stops shedding altogether, and it reverses the miniaturization of follicles, which leads to thicker, healthier hair. It has also been effective in reactivating dormant or damaged hair follicles, it accelerates follicle recovery and enhances overall hair re-growth.

Revivify Medical Spa has the latest technology at its disposal to prepare PRP from the blood of each patient. This all-natural product, has no negative side effects, and there is no chance of rejection. PRP is obtained by centrifuging your own blood to remove red blood cells, the resulting plasma, has a greater concentration of growth factors which are used to encourage the healing of hair follicles.

PRP treatment is a are non-surgical minimally invasive procedure; micro-injections are applied directly to the scalp to strengthen and regenerate follicles so they can once again produce a healthy strand of hair. This is an out-patient procedure with no down time, you will be back to your normal daily routine the same day. The duration of the treatment depends of the severity of the alopecia, on average 1 treatment a week for 4 weeks is all it takes.

Hair Restoration with Exosomes Treatment

Our newest addition to our hair restoration treatments is with exosomes.

Exosomes Hair Restoration is a regenerative therapy that utilizes stem cell exosomes to stimulate hair follicles and trigger new hair growth.

Because exosomes foster cell-to-cell communication, they can transfer genetic information to cells within the damaged tissue using their more than 200 signaling proteins. These messages promote survival and regeneration within the tissue cells

This cutting edge hair restoration therapy involves injecting the exosomes into the affected areas of the scalp to help stimulate hair regrowth.

These treatments do not require any downtime, and the risk of adverse effects is minimal, making this an extremely convenient and safe procedure.

Every patient experience is different; however, here is what you can expect during and after your exosomes hair regeneration procedure.

  • Little or no discomfort during and after your procedure
  • You may experience some tenderness to the touch immediately following your exosome’s treatment.
  • You can expect natural hair regrowth in as little as two to three months
  • Your new hair growth may continue over the course of a year.
